Initial Heating Settings

Initial settings for verification (scale markings are approximate)Timer DialNo temperature setting / 20min

Flip the food after about 10 minutes, and check that the thickest part in the center is tender once cooking is complete.

This is the cooking time for the first round. Please refer to the instructions for preheating. You’ll need to check for doneness and cook further as needed.

The total time, including preparation, cooking in batches, checking, and additional heating, has not been measured.

Check Before Cooking
  • This is not a method for cooking whole sweet potatoes. Cut them lengthwise in half or into 4 pieces, making every part no thicker than 25mm. Do not use a steam mode or a low-temperature cooking function.
  • These instructions are specific to the Ninja AF080J model sold in Japan. Since the unit automatically adjusts the temperature based on a standard of approximately 200℃, do not adjust the temperature setting or select a specific mode.
  • Install the plate with the convex side facing up, and arrange the ingredients in a single layer with space between them. Do not exceed the MAX line (approx. 1.6L); any ingredients that do not fit should be cooked in a separate batch. Do not convert the capacity (L) to ingredient weight (g).
  • These are unique experimental conditions that start with a cold unit without preheating the empty appliance. When splitting the batch, allow the unit to cool sufficiently before starting again under the same conditions. The time required for cooling has not been confirmed.
  • The time on the dial is a guideline. If setting a time of less than 5 minutes, turn the dial past the 5 mark and then back to the desired setting. To stop the timer midway, turn the dial counterclockwise back to 0.
  • Removing the basket stops the heating process, but the timer continues to run. After checking on the food, verify the remaining time on the timer and return the basket; do not count the time the basket was removed as part of the cooking time.
  • Do not cover the tray with paper, foil, or containers; add light toppings after cooking. Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use. If you notice smoke or an unusual odor, stop the appliance immediately and follow the instructions in the user manual.

Brush oil on the cut surface

Lightly brush 3g of canola oil onto the cut surfaces. Arrange them on a plate with the convex side facing up, leaving space between them; do not wrap them in paper or foil.

  3. 03

    Bake for about 20 minutes

Place the food in the cold air fryer and set the dial to approximately 20 minutes. Flip it over after about 10 minutes, check the remaining time, and return it to the air fryer. If it starts to burn, stop the cycle even before the time is up to check on it.

  4. 04

Check the center and heat further if needed

Insert a bamboo skewer into the thickest part, or cut it open, to confirm that it is soft throughout with no hard, raw center. Always remove the skewer before heating. If more cooking is needed, turn the dial past the 5 mark, return it to approximately 2 minutes, add heat, and check again. Approximately 2 minutes is the checking interval, not a guaranteed completion time. The temperature cannot be changed. Transfer the finished food to a clean plate.

Check the results

Check that it is heated through to the center until tender to ensure it is done. The amount of syrup, the sticky texture, and whether it tastes the same as a whole roasted version have not been verified.

If you get stuck along the way

Only the surface turns dark

Stop immediately and check the thickness and firmness of the center. Do not assume that a charred surface indicates the food is cooked through.

I only have thick potatoes

Cut the food vertically more times to ensure each piece is 25mm thick or less. Do not cook whole pieces for the same amount of time.
